China’s Jingdong corporation announces the SEAL Awards organization is presenting its 2018 Business Sustainability Award to the corporation. Jingdong, or JD.com, is the nation’s most extensive, technologically-advanced online and retail shopping platform.
The SEAL Awards organization recognizes and supports business and media environmental protection efforts, particularly those combating climate change. The SEAL organization offers three primary awards, one for businesses’ sustainability practices, one for environmental journalism, and one monetary grant program.
The SEAL Awards recognizes companies that implement sustainability measures through leadership initiatives to protect the environment. And Jingdong Mall won the 2018 SEAL Business Sustainability Award.
Lido Ma is head of JD.com’s “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” team. Ma explains that his team is honored because they champion corporate sustainability for the long term. Since 2013, Ma’s CSR team has created and implemented programs to reduce the company’s environmental footprint. The company designs its product manufacturing, packaging, sales, and delivery methods to have as little effect on the environment as possible.
The CSR team has developed a multi-faceted platform for comprehensive, continuing environmental and social improvement. Ma describes his team as committed to protecting the environment, elevating citizens out of poverty through innovative social programs, and improving education services. He states that JD.com leaders believe they have a responsibility to remain mindful of ways to give back and improve society. Protecting the environment through use of sustainable products and consumables, thus reducing pollution and waste are two important factors.
The awards organization’s founder, Matt Harney, remarked that Jingdong’s most notable efforts lie in the corporation’s recycling initiative. The judging panel assigned the highest mark possible for environmental impact as the panelists reviewed the results; the program, covering 47 cities throughout China, has recycled more than 1 million clothing articles and more than 400,000 toys.
Harney praised Jingdong for using its widespread customer base and innovative logistics network to create a system for delivering immediate and meaningful social and environmental improvement efforts.
